Seven Psychics (Shifter Squad Book 1) by J.C. Diem Review

Hello!!

So at first glance of the cover I admit I didn't really care much about this book. So I did ignore it at first but then it kept popping around on Amazon while I was doing a search of possible Werewolf novels for me to read. So I said, "What the check let's give it a try." So then I decided to read the description of it and I was curious.

I found the story interesting but at some point it did get a little slow.  The main character Lexi is not exactly the type of character I thought she was going to be. I pictured her to be a little more sarcastic and witty with a back bone to her and honestly ... she really wasn't like that. It was a little disappointing 'cause I love characters that are sarcastic (Maybe 'cause I am. Anyways) Now the reason I thought she was a witty, sarcastic character was 'cause of her upbringing and her master marksmanship. And not to mention her father being a soldier and a master marksman himself. The "bessst" as it kept ringing out through out the story. She just seem like she would have had that personality.

For example I would mention the part when she first met the squad and Mr. Moody Pants Reese advances on her. All moody and bad attitude like. I really thought that she was going to show him some back bone. And yes I know she's human and seeing a big ass guy she doesn't even know advancing on her then looming over her that way is scary. But ... still, I just thought having her father raise her like he did that she just ... stand up for herself in that situation.

Maybe it's just me.

I also didn't quite liked how she kept jumping from first name to their last name so damn much in the same page. It was rather annoying. And actually confusing at times. I would have to stop sometimes to re-read something just to see who in the heck she was talking to. 'Cause honestly I kept forgetting their last names. But still, she could have kept to one way of calling them geez.

But anyways, I was able to get the hang of it in the end.

So she wasn't the character I thought she would be. But it's not to say I didn't like her, 'cause I did. To be honest tho, to me she did come off as a little childish and immature compared to how she was raised. But hey, maybe I saw her as so 'cause I had a different picture of how her character would be. I do think she grew up just a tad bit around the ending, but still. I still see her as a child with just a little bit more maturity is all. Not much tho.

Another thing I didn't really like was how easy it was to eliminate the villains. I mean the concept of them was pretty nice and they actually sounded scary and quite interesting. But then the squad eliminated them quite easily that it just had me thinking, "Why in the bloody hell did they bring Lexi in, in the first place? The squad can kill these villains easily, they don't really need her at all!! >;[[" which was annoying to think since it did take me out the story a little bit. Plus all that the villains really did was ... hide their tracks. That'sss really it. So what I'm saying is, there could have been a little more action and Lexi could of been a little more involved. It just seemed like the squad were running around with their heads chopped off for most of the "action" then actually battling the villains. And Lexi sitting in the SUV a loooot!! Which was disappointing to say the least. And then the very few times she was allowed to join in the "battle" she really didn't do much.

I did enjoy the plot and the concept of it quite a bit. I like the idea of a supernatural squad out there tracking and killing villains. That was pretty cool. The rest of the characters were pretty fun to get to know. I wish there had been just a little bit more funny moments, but for the most part it had moments that were funny. I just like comedy in my supernatural books is all.

I also did enjoy how Lexi interacted with Flynn and Kala. Those three really felt like they became friends in the end which was nice. Reese tho ... well he had the typical attitude most werewolves have in books like these. So I wasn't surprise. (I do tend to read a lot of Werewolf novels. They are my fav after all) But I thought that his attitude towards Lexi would have gotten better towards the end and apparently ... it didn't. Well at least not as much as I thought it would have. I guess we'll see for the next books in the series.

I did also appreciate that Lexi was pretty smart and able to connect a few things herself, but there were things that were pretty damn simple to piece together easily. That were in her face as well. Heck I even knew things before she did (Which I usually hate while reading a book. That I figure things out before the character those.) that had me thinking, "how smart was she really?"

In some scenes I would be like, "Oh yay she has a brain that works!" in other scenes I would be, "Does she really have a brain that works?" then in others I'd be, "She really doesn't have a brain that works at all!!" those were the points that her character disappointed me the most 'cause I believed her to have a some sort of working brain. To be fair tho this was mostly towards the end.

Anyway let's move forward. ^.^

There were two sex scenes and in my opinion there wasn't any rape at all. (I've read a few reviews saying there was rape.) I didn't feel like it was rape and I didn't see any rape. She was 18 and he 20. And all in all it actually was ... consensual. Now I didn't particularly like that she allowed it to happen when he wasn't fully there. I mean I think there could have been some other way to bring him out of the trance. Maybe? Maybe not? I don't know. But whatever.

I did like that she was turned around the ending of the story tho. That was nice.

So all in all the story was a tad bit slow at first, - granted that I got into it well enough - and not exactly as action packed as I thought it was going to be. And the main character wasn't how I thought she would be either, but I did enjoy the concept of the plot and the story. The characters were pretty entertaining and I did enjoy reading about the squad and Lexi connecting little by little. Granted that I wish I could have known a little more about Reese, but ... I enjoy it well enough to want to read the rest of the books in the series, plus I want to meet Lexis father and see where it will go between Reese and Lexi. ^.^

I guess I can say give this a shot. Read the first book in Kindle it's free and make your choice then. But in my humble opinion I think people should give it a try. I did and will continue to do so with the other books in the series. ^.^

Werewolves of New York: Dontae: A Werewolf Shifter Romance (Werewolves of... #4) by Faleena Hopkins Review

Hello!!

Dontae how at first at the beginning of Werewolves of New York" Nathaniel I felt nothing for you, then little by little I came to understand you a little bit through out that book and now here comes your own book and ... I grew to love you!! ^.^

From the beginning of Nathaniel's book I really didn't have much connection with Dantae. He was so reserved and rather mean, more into the cruel side. His banter about how woman couldn't be trusted - like to his own pack-mates - did get rather annoying. But for the most part I really didn't feel anything for the guy. I guess that was the whole point tho, no. But as that specific book went on I started to feel something for Dantae. As I kept reading the other books Eli and Darik I really started to open up to Dantae, even started to like him by the end of Darik's book.

Now we go onto his book. This Dantae werewolf is HELLA mean and rather cruel but ... I love him!! ^.^ And he DOES have a big heart and is very kind deep, deep, deep down!! Dantae is quite funny actually, a little on the mean side mind you, but still funny non the less and I LOVE it!!

The reason Dantae started out rather cold and mean in book one Nathaniel was because he was betrayed by his then girlfriend Catherine. Which through out the first 3 books and part of Dantaes book we as readers grew to hate her as well. So part of me was a little disappointing in seeing that the author planned on putting Dantae and Catherine back together again. 'Cause as mentioned i grew to hate her for hurting Dantae.

In this story tho we get to know Catherine and quite honestly she turned out to be one of my favorite female leads from this book series aside from Talia.

Catherine is actually not exactly how Dantae - and the rest of his pack-mates - saw her. She's actually strong willed and a spitfire herself. She stand her own and she's rather funny as well.

We get to understand the reasons for her actions while still she shouldn't have done it of course, I can still understand it.

So at the end I enjoyed Dantae and Catherine getting back together and I do believe now that they made a wonderful couple!!

This is another quite and easy read, very entertaining. It's mostly all about Dantae and Catherine. But really kept me entertained and connected to them and I ended up loving them as characters and as a couple!!

Must read definitely!! ^.^ The author new what she was doing from the start and she connected all of the books in such a nice way and she succeeded in bringing me as a reader to love two characters that at first I wasn't really connected to - Dantae - and the other I really hated - Catherine - like the rest of the wolves. Good read, good way of writing it and I enjoy every bit!

Werewolves of New York: Darik (Werewolves of... Book 3) by Faleena Hopkins Review

Hello everyone!!

Another book in this wonderful series! I loved this book very much just like the other two before this one. This book now is about Darik finding his mate.

From the very start I was laughing my bum off as always, Eli always lights the mood in a lovely way for me. I can't get enough of him. This book like the other two was a very quick read, easy and simple. I read this one in a day, maybe less actually. I did feel this one a little shorter, granted that I still loved it loads.

Darik is simply sexy and funny and sweet and I love him. From the other three packmates he is the simplest, dawn to earth from them all, which I found adorable. I love how straight forward and to the point kind of guy he is.

Talia Irizarry Puerto Rican. I'm Borricua so it was something else to connect with her.^.^ She's a nurse. I loved that she was a spitfire and simply didn't let her self be pushed around by Dontae or anyone for that matter. She's a strong woman with a good heart and a brain in her head. I loved that, a woman that takes action. And I think she was a perfect match for Derik, they complimented each other nicely. I also loved that she told him how she felt and didn't really hide her feelings. So that was nice. I love that in situation she just went for it, leaving Darik rather surprise, which was funny.

The werewolves brotherhood was even stronger I think in this book. I love to see all of them interacting is so hilarious and sweet as well. One could feel how close they all are. This book was awesome I loved it, I wish it didn't end!! It's a must read!!

This book is simple and quick to read with amazing characters, both the female lead (And the other two ladies) and the male lead (also the other 3 weres) and the bond between the werewolves is nicely written. The connection with Derik and Talia was super nice and sweet and quite down to earth with a splash awesomeness.

Love this series, I would say "I can't read the next book. Dantae's story, but ... I already did and yep I loved it as well!!

Werewolves of New York: Eli (Werewolves of... Book 2) by Faleena Hopkins Review!

Hi!

So I was looking to find a good Werewolf story and I stumbled onto the first book in this world since the books are stand alone technically. Which is Werewolves of New York: Nathaniel. I LOVE it. So it only made sense to read this second book.

This was a very well written book, fast paced and easy to read. The characters are hilarious and fun to read about. Especially this werewolf Eli. He is amazing and I seriously love him!!

The Werewolves have a nice brotherhood to them and you can feel it through the words and how they express themselves which is very nice. And just like in the first book, to me they made the book the awesomeness it is. For the most part they were the ones that kept me turning the -- well Kindle page. This is not so say that the female characters weren't well written 'cause they were.

Michelle from the previous book and Rose from this one are very strong characters in their own way. They both have common sense and a brain in their heads which I love and appreciate.

I really dislike books where the female is blinded by how hot their "lover" is that their common sense is flush down the toilet. In these books I didn't have to worry about them.

The way these books were written helped me connect to each character even Dontae. At first in the first book I really didn't feel anything for him, but in this I started to appreciate him and I started to see a little more of his personality which got me interested in reading his book.

So yes in short I will read the rest of the books. This was a very relax read with lots of humor and great characters to read about. The voice/tone of the jokes were really well splashed through out the book. Things that I could actually find myself saying also, which made me connect to the story even more.

I will admit this tho, I think that the author should have added  a little more time with the Werewolves in wolf form 'cause I really wanted to see a little more of that and admittedly there really was much of it. Which was disappointing. This fact goes for the first book as well.

But yes, I recommend this book and the first one as well. I'm sure you will enjoy the personalities of these Werewolves as I did! It's a must read.

Werewolves of New York: Nathaniel: A Werewolf Shifter Romance (Werewolves of... Book 1) by Faleena Hopkins Review

Hi everyone!

So I was looking for some Werewolves novels  because I really missed reading about my favorite mythical creature. I stumbled onto Werewolves of New York. At first based on the cover I wasn't completely sure. Now I will admit that I AM a judge a book by it's cover sort of reader and this cover was, is appealing don't get me wrong, but something you never really know with covers like this.

But I did give in and gave this a try. I didn't read any of the reviews tho. As soon as I started reading the main character Michelle actually made me smile because she seemed so normal. Right off the bat she was quite likable and natural. She was smart and simple had a good brain that head of hers which I appreciate in female leads.

Michelle is a strong character without being over the top and she can also show her vulnerable side without being annoying. there were scenes in the book where I believe she reacted like a normal person would and plus I loved that she didn't go for a cab ride with a total stranger dispite her attractiveness towards him. Which believe me is refreshing.I really dislike intant love in novels but in this one it was accompanied by a female that actually had common sense. Yay!!

Now on to the males.

I freaking LOVED them. And I believe that they were the part that drove the story. They really made me laugh out loud so dang much. Especially that Eli. I formed such a crush on him ... yes a fictional character technically .. it's ridiculous. He - to be honest - was the best part. Now that's not to say I didn't enjoy the other 3 of them tho. The brotherhood that the werewolves had was very nice and I enjoyed it. It was natural and easy to read. I will admit tho that Dantae was weird to be at first. I honestly really didn't feel much for him. Like at all at first. Literally I felt nothing, not annoyed by his personality, not love. Nothing. not until that interview - interrogation really - where I read more of his personality. Now I'm looking forward to read his book because once i started reading the book of Eli I started to appreciate Dontae a bit more. He's now quite interesting to.

On to the writing style. It was quite easy to read for me and a fast read as well. I finished reading each book in a day. The humor was splashed around in all the right places and I simply just enjoyed it. Surprisingly so.

All in all this is a fast and easy read with great likable natural characters with great connection. Must read I'd say!!

Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin Book Review

Stories about werewolves will forever be my favorites, so of course that's what I usually look for. During one of those searches for werewolves books I discovered Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin and as you could imagine the cover was the key element that got me interested.

I wasn't wrong.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.

The main character is a pretty cool young girl with quite the personality - plus the ability to see visions when her skin touches other peoples skins -.
I am one of those people that do actually enjoy snarky and sarcastic characters and Tessa is just that character, snarky  and a bit sarcastic. When Tessa want's answers she goes out and get's them, she doesn't wait for others to pull her out of bad situations and she does take charge, all the qualities that I enjoy reading in female main characters.

In my opinion there was instant connection - not love - between Tessa and Dastien. One of the reasons why I dislike instant love is because usually the girl can't function - least of all even think - around her instant love guy. But I appreciated that Tessa could stand up to Dastien, she could react like a human and continue thinking all at the same time. She had him work for it. Which I enjoyed.

The author knew how to give enough information about the main character without over doing it or pushing it into our faces. I appreciated that. She gave us time in Tessa's human life, which we have to get to know her and her family. A family that clearly love each other and normal family relationships. I especially loved her brother Axel, he's smart, nice and quite protective of his sister Tessa. And funny. I would have loved to see more of him in the story, but of course the story was about Tessa, so it's understandable.

I enjoyed that Tessa didn't immediately accept or was happy by her forced turned into a werewolf. She wasn't happy about it and she showed it and expressed it. Seeing her react to it, seeing her not just stand back and accept what was done to her or the way the werewolves lived their lives and having it be expected of her was one of the best parts of the story. I also enjoyed that Tessa had to learn how to trust the werewolves around her and grow to sort of accept who she was becoming.

The flow of the story was nicely written and comfortable, it was an easy read. All the characters are pretty likable as well, not just Tessa. I even liked the "bad girl" of the story Imogene. The werewolf one. The author Aileen Erin did a good job and I will continue reading the rest of the series.

I do recommend this book, but alas it's your choice as always. ^.^

Pierced Book Review by J.C. Mells

I saw this book - kindle really - and the cover completely grabbed me right away. So I figured that this would be a really pleasant read.

Boy was I totally right!

I simply loved this story! This book did surprise me quite a bit, I really didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Each of the characters were exceedingly lovable and such a joy to read and follow! Finally I got to read a book that I couldn't get enough of! So I'm probably going to gosh over this quite a bit.

I do have to admit that the beginning of the story did have me question whether I should continue with it. It was a little slow for me at first, but I know that it was necessary for the story and for us to understand the plot and the going on of it all. I'm glad I stuck with it, because as the progress continued I got so much more involved with the main character Pierce. This story is an urban fantasy, so there are vampires and wolves and sorcerers I believe.  The author knew how to sprinkle it in a way that it wasn't forced or pushed in your face, the way it's written it's more towards it can be believable which is nice.

J.C. Mells - which I have never heard of until now - knows how to keep the reader engaged with well rounded characters and each of them are very important to it all. There isn't much of a romance which is really good, granted that there's a small hint of it in my opinion towards the end. The author mainly focuses on Pierce's tragic background and the obstacles that are part of her life. Pierce is a bit of a schizo. She has two voices/personalities in her head and she knows it and embraces it. Mildred and Veda - the voices in Pierce's head - were created by Pierce during her traumatic childhood as a form of copping with the whole situation. Those voices pop in to add hilarious commentary - and some bickering - helpful advice and guidance to Pierce.
I must say, sometimes it was a bit hard to keep track of who said what, but for the most time I understood the conversations between the ladies and Pierce.
Now to Pierce herself.
Pierce is pretty complicated young girl, with a very difficult and tragic past/childhood. She's - along with his daughter Mia - running away from Dorian a man that wan't to be a vampire. He's the one that pushed upon her all the dark and complicatedly tragic history.
I believe the author did a very good job with the writing, which was easy to follow and with the characters which were very well rounded and likable. I'm looking forward to the other books of the series, which they are already out, so I can't wait to be able to get them.  I enjoyed the story very much! ^.^

Pierce is a strong girl. She stands up for herself and does anything and everything to keep herself - and Mia - on their feet. She kick ass too, which is nice. Pierce does tend to keep people at a distance, which is understandable giving her past, so she doesn't trust many either. It was really nice to see her evolved through out the story.
