Hello!!
So at first glance of the cover I admit I didn't really care much about this book. So I did ignore it at first but then it kept popping around on Amazon while I was doing a search of possible Werewolf novels for me to read. So I said, "What the check let's give it a try." So then I decided to read the description of it and I was curious.
I found the story interesting but at some point it did get a little slow. The main character Lexi is not exactly the type of character I thought she was going to be. I pictured her to be a little more sarcastic and witty with a back bone to her and honestly ... she really wasn't like that. It was a little disappointing 'cause I love characters that are sarcastic (Maybe 'cause I am. Anyways) Now the reason I thought she was a witty, sarcastic character was 'cause of her upbringing and her master marksmanship. And not to mention her father being a soldier and a master marksman himself. The "bessst" as it kept ringing out through out the story. She just seem like she would have had that personality.
For example I would mention the part when she first met the squad and Mr. Moody Pants Reese advances on her. All moody and bad attitude like. I really thought that she was going to show him some back bone. And yes I know she's human and seeing a big ass guy she doesn't even know advancing on her then looming over her that way is scary. But ... still, I just thought having her father raise her like he did that she just ... stand up for herself in that situation.
Maybe it's just me.
I also didn't quite liked how she kept jumping from first name to their last name so damn much in the same page. It was rather annoying. And actually confusing at times. I would have to stop sometimes to re-read something just to see who in the heck she was talking to. 'Cause honestly I kept forgetting their last names. But still, she could have kept to one way of calling them geez.
But anyways, I was able to get the hang of it in the end.
So she wasn't the character I thought she would be. But it's not to say I didn't like her, 'cause I did. To be honest tho, to me she did come off as a little childish and immature compared to how she was raised. But hey, maybe I saw her as so 'cause I had a different picture of how her character would be. I do think she grew up just a tad bit around the ending, but still. I still see her as a child with just a little bit more maturity is all. Not much tho.
Another thing I didn't really like was how easy it was to eliminate the villains. I mean the concept of them was pretty nice and they actually sounded scary and quite interesting. But then the squad eliminated them quite easily that it just had me thinking, "Why in the bloody hell did they bring Lexi in, in the first place? The squad can kill these villains easily, they don't really need her at all!! >;[[" which was annoying to think since it did take me out the story a little bit. Plus all that the villains really did was ... hide their tracks. That'sss really it. So what I'm saying is, there could have been a little more action and Lexi could of been a little more involved. It just seemed like the squad were running around with their heads chopped off for most of the "action" then actually battling the villains. And Lexi sitting in the SUV a loooot!! Which was disappointing to say the least. And then the very few times she was allowed to join in the "battle" she really didn't do much.
I did enjoy the plot and the concept of it quite a bit. I like the idea of a supernatural squad out there tracking and killing villains. That was pretty cool. The rest of the characters were pretty fun to get to know. I wish there had been just a little bit more funny moments, but for the most part it had moments that were funny. I just like comedy in my supernatural books is all.
I also did enjoy how Lexi interacted with Flynn and Kala. Those three really felt like they became friends in the end which was nice. Reese tho ... well he had the typical attitude most werewolves have in books like these. So I wasn't surprise. (I do tend to read a lot of Werewolf novels. They are my fav after all) But I thought that his attitude towards Lexi would have gotten better towards the end and apparently ... it didn't. Well at least not as much as I thought it would have. I guess we'll see for the next books in the series.
I did also appreciate that Lexi was pretty smart and able to connect a few things herself, but there were things that were pretty damn simple to piece together easily. That were in her face as well. Heck I even knew things before she did (Which I usually hate while reading a book. That I figure things out before the character those.) that had me thinking, "how smart was she really?"
In some scenes I would be like, "Oh yay she has a brain that works!" in other scenes I would be, "Does she really have a brain that works?" then in others I'd be, "She really doesn't have a brain that works at all!!" those were the points that her character disappointed me the most 'cause I believed her to have a some sort of working brain. To be fair tho this was mostly towards the end.
Anyway let's move forward. ^.^
There were two sex scenes and in my opinion there wasn't any rape at all. (I've read a few reviews saying there was rape.) I didn't feel like it was rape and I didn't see any rape. She was 18 and he 20. And all in all it actually was ... consensual. Now I didn't particularly like that she allowed it to happen when he wasn't fully there. I mean I think there could have been some other way to bring him out of the trance. Maybe? Maybe not? I don't know. But whatever.
I did like that she was turned around the ending of the story tho. That was nice.
So all in all the story was a tad bit slow at first, - granted that I got into it well enough - and not exactly as action packed as I thought it was going to be. And the main character wasn't how I thought she would be either, but I did enjoy the concept of the plot and the story. The characters were pretty entertaining and I did enjoy reading about the squad and Lexi connecting little by little. Granted that I wish I could have known a little more about Reese, but ... I enjoy it well enough to want to read the rest of the books in the series, plus I want to meet Lexis father and see where it will go between Reese and Lexi. ^.^
I guess I can say give this a shot. Read the first book in Kindle it's free and make your choice then. But in my humble opinion I think people should give it a try. I did and will continue to do so with the other books in the series. ^.^
